January 10 – 19
In the heat of summer, a few short months after the guns have finally fallen silent across the world, families everywhere turn their minds back toward home after years of war abroad. On a small farm in northern Michigan, one such family gathers together for the first time in years. After being separated by work, the war, and the course of life, their reunion quickly awakens old grudges. As bad blood begins to boil, the residents of the country estate struggle desperately to restore order without literally killing each other.
Join Character House Theatre Company in this brand new staging of Uncle Vanya. Reimagined in the immediate aftermath of World War II, this production brings the color and immediacy of post-war Americana to Chekhov’s rural landscape. Using a brand new adaptation of the script, every second of this performance leans into the new setting, creating new meaning from a story over a century old.
We are excited and honored to present this iconic piece of the Russian literary canon to the Indianapolis community.
